📖The Logbook of the Thousand Sunny

Beyond the Falls

Chapter 5 of 5

The Thousand Sunny crested the top of Reverse Mountain, her hull steady on the calm waters that marked the entrance to the Grand Line proper. The fog that had clung to them for days was gone, replaced by a brilliant blue sky and a warm sun that seemed to wash away the chill of the supernatural. The logbook lay open on a barrel, its pages blank and still. Robin closed it gently, her fingers tracing the now-empty cover. “He’s gone,” she said softly. “Duros completed his dream.” Franky stood at the helm, eyes wide as he looked out at the endless sea. “So that was a real ghost ship? A shipwright from two hundred years ago saw the Sunny in a vision… and spent his whole life trying to build her?” “And he finally got to see her sail,” Brook added, his voice unusually quiet. He held his violin, the bow still raised from the last note he’d played. “I know what it means to wait for a dream. To be lost at sea for decades. He was waiting for someone to follow him to the end.” Luffy grinned, perched on the lion figurehead. “That means he’s free now, right? So let’s throw a party!” “Hold on, Captain,” Nami said, though she was smiling. “We should at least say something first.” Robin opened the logbook one last time. A faint shimmer of ink appeared on the final page, forming a single sentence in elegant script: *Thank you for the ride. My dream is complete.* She read it aloud, and for a moment, the air seemed to hold its breath. Then a warm breeze swept across the deck, carrying the faint scent of salt and old wood. The sun caught the spray from the falls, painting a rainbow that arched over the ship. Brook raised his violin and played a soft, lilting melody—not mournful this time, but gentle, like lullaby. The notes drifted on the wind, and everyone listened in silence. When the last note faded, Franky wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. “That’s SUUUUPER sad, yet super beautiful. I’m going to build a plaque for Duros in the shipyard. ‘To the shipwright who dreamed of the Sunny first.’” Robin smiled, tucking the logbook into her coat. “I think he would appreciate that.” Luffy jumped up and pumped his fist. “Alright! Now that the ghost is done, we’ve got a whole ocean to explore! Set sail, everyone!” The crew scrambled into action—Nami checking the log pose, Zoro yawning and shifting positions, Sanji heading for the kitchen. The Sunny’s sails billowed, catching the wind, and the ship began to move forward, leaving Reverse Mountain behind. As they sailed toward the horizon, Robin stood at the railing, the logbook in her hand. She opened it one last time. The message was gone, but she knew—this was not an end. It was a beginning. Somewhere, maybe, Duros’s spirit was already dreaming of another ship. And for the Straw Hat Pirates, the adventure was just beginning again. “Hey, Robin!” Usopp called from the bow. “You think there are more logbooks out there? Ones that wrote about us before we were born?” Robin turned, a mysterious smile on her lips. “I wouldn’t be surprised. The world is full of mysteries… and we’ve only just started uncovering them.”
